Scanners 35mm Slides

What is the best (and easiest) way to download thousands of 35mm slides?

My late father was amataeur and we have an excellent photographer Thousands of families would suggest taking them to a lab and having them professionally done, when I worked in a lab, we investigate to pay $ 2.82 100 slides placed on a CD. (I suggest a small lab that cares about your images, not only earning money, I worked at Walmart, but a small one I have found the Super Center to be pretty terrible) Hope this helps.
