Best Scanners For Old Photos

What do you think of these old photographs of the Australian outback? Also how best to store them digitally ?
My Father left me his old photos when he died. Here are some of them.

These were scanned at 600 dpi.It's the highest that my scanner goes. Any advice you can give me on digital storage would be appreciated. Thank you.
