surround sound questions?

if I hook a surround sound system with a 1080p up-scaling dvd player system to my tv will the following play in surround: xbox 360 elite, blu-ray player ( Sony BDP-S350), the dvd player that comes with the system, and the channels that are in surround sound. Also will all the speakers be connected to the Receiver wirelessly or do you need wires running to each individual speaker from the Receiver

If you want surround sound out of a particular component (i.e. 360, Blu-ray) all you need to do is to connect it to the surround sound system. But because it won't be high definition, you should connect the 360 and Blu-ray player video directly to the TV via HDMI.

There are wireless speakers systems out there, but none that I've heard of that are any good. The vast majority of the home theater in a box (HTIB) systems have wired speakers. There is something Best Buy makes called the Rocketfish Universal Wireless Rear Speaker Kit ($100). It works very well for the back speakers if you can't run cables across a room on in the walls.

Question: Have you bought the HTIB yet? If not, then don't. The main reason is that because your Blu-ray player will play DVDs you don't need a DVD player. The second reason is because the HTIB won't play HD audio. Do yourself a favor and spend the money to buy a quality a/v receiver (that can decode DTS-HD MA) and a separate 5.1 speaker set. The Polk RM6750 5.1 speaker set, going for $180 on newegg.com is a great system. And the Onkyo TX-SR606 is a fine a/v receiver that you can pick up for less than $350.

You have the HD Blu-ray and an HD TV, so why miss out on the HD audio?
