Does the Ring in Lord of the Rings represent Sin?
Tolkien wrote, "The Lord of the Rings is, of course, a fundamentally religious and Catholic work; unconsciously so at first, but consciously in the revision."
I watched the Lord of the Rings trilogy tonight and couldn't help but notice that the Ring had a power over people that mirrors the power sin has over people, in particular, the addiction to sin.
Has anyone else noticed that when they watch LOTR? Or does the Ring represent something different for you?
What are some other Christian/Catholic themes in the LOTR trilogy?
I would think of the One Ring as a metaphor for temptation, not of the evil itself. The Ring tempts one into evil, but that is ultimately the decision of the person themselves. Like Galadriel said in the Fellowship, that she would at first use the Ring for justice and good, but "Alas! It would not stop there". Power is alluring, no mistake. The quest for it corrupts hearts, even if their quest was for justice in the beginning.

The Lord of the Rings Extended Edition available only in widescreen?
I am about to order The Lord of the Rings Fellowship of the Ring Extended Edition DVD set online at Fred Meyer, and I want it to be in widescreen format. However, the description didn't specify whether it's widescreen or fullscreen. Is the extended version only available in widescreen? If so, then that's good news for me!
